ST. JOSEPH'S MONASTERY, Carmel Church, Muradnagar, Ghaziabad – 201 206 (UP)
St. Joseph's Monastery, Muradnagar, better known as Carmel Church, was constructed in 1986 under the supervision of Fr. Ambrose Panackal, under the guidance of Rev. Fr. Ephrem Parathazam, Provincial of the Malabar province. The house was blessed by Rt. Rev. Patrick Nair, Bishop of Meerut on 19 March 1987. After the tenure of Fr. Ambrose, Fr. Cyriac Mannanal served as the father-in-charge of the station for a very brief period followed by Fr. Aurelian Kurias. Bro. Jose Menacherry was also one of the first members of this station. Fr. Mathias Puthenpurackal, Fr. Thomas Kurien and Bro. Sebastian Vettikuzhakkunnel were also members of this house during the infancy of this station. Though situated close to the police station, this house was twice ransacked and plundered by dacoits in 1989, assaulting Fr. Aurelian in the first instance and locking in Bro. Sebastian in the second.
Though this station had been home to a small community from its inception, it was only on 22 February 1994 that this house was officially declared a canonically formed house by V. Rev. Fr. Camillo Maccisse, Superior General. On the same occasion, this house was also privileged to host a missionary meeting with V. Fr. General for the official declaration of the establishment of our circumscription as Punjab Region.
